The hamlet of Newbiggin sits on the hillside above the village of Askrigg - 10-15 minutes walk across the fields or a short car journey.  Newbiggin has just 7 properties, all inhabited by locals apart from our cottage.  A pretty beck (stream) runs through and at the centre of the hamlet is the "pound" or green from which the cottage takes its name.

There are views to the impressive hills of Ellerkin to the north and Addlebrough (the table top) to the south.

The village of Askrigg with its church and market cross became a popular tourist location in the 70s when it was used for location filming for the television series "All Creatures Great and Small".

Familiar landmarks will be the vets' house and the "Drover's" pub (in reality the King's Arms).

Askrigg has two further pubs and a small shop for basic food needs and a café/deli.

From Askrigg you can walk to see Mill Gill and Whitfield Gill - two of the waterfalls of Wensleydale.

We have produced a series of 9 laminated short walk guides which are routes directly from Pound Cottage – no need to even get the car out!
